AES McGill Chapter & HHB Canada Present: An Evening with Royer Labs & Mojave Audio

HHB Communications Canada and the McGill University chapter of the Audio Engineering Society have will be presenting a workshop and presentation by Royer Labs co-founder/owner John Jennings and Mojave Audio President Dusty Wakeman on Oct. 30 in Montreal. This event wil offer an in-depth look at how ribbons and condensers work and what they do, with an ample assortment of sound samples, mic comparisons and recorded tracks from well-known artists.

John Jennings, also a co-founder of Mojave Audio, has worked with David Royer since 1996. Their early discussions about ribbon microphones led to the opening of Royer Labs in 1998, where Royer’s unique modern ribbon microphone designs led to the renewed popularity of ribbon mics in mainstream recording. John serves as Royer’s VP of Sales and Marketing. His Ribbons-101 class, distilled from years of discussions with David Royer and hundreds of studio sessions (on both sides of the glass), explains why ribbons sound so natural, how ribbons do what they do, and the unique qualifications of ribbon microphones in digital recording.

HHB Communications Canada has organized an event for next Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Revolution Recording in Toronto that will see Royer Labs co-founder/owner John Jennings and Mojave Audio President Dusty Wakeman offer an in-depth look at how ribbons and condensers work and what they do. There will be an ample assortment of sound samples, mic comparisons and recorded tracks from well-known artists.

AES 137 Experiences Record West Coast Attendance

AES137 OpeningThe 137th Audio Engineering Society Convention, which was held Oct. 9-12, 2014, saw 15,403 registered attendees and 307 exhibitors/sponsors fill the Los Angeles Convention Center in California. AES137 far surpassed any West Coast AES Convention in the last 10 years or more. At show close, AES reported a 28 per cent increase in registration since the last time the convention was on the West Coast (133rd AES Convention in San Francisco in 2012).

The event is happening on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at The Farm Studios in Vancouver. The companies say it will be an interactive and informative evening of mixing tips and techniques from one of Canada’s most accomplished studio pros.

First Ever Latin American Producers Panel to be Offered at AES 137

The panel, titled “Grandes Productores de América Latina” (“Great producers from Latin America”) will bring together 10 of the most influential Latin producers and engineers of all time. The presenters are each multiple Grammy-Award winners who will present their most recent work and best-selling productions – ranging from Celine Dion and Elvis Costello to the biggest names in Latin music, such as Bajofondo and Calle 13 – and discuss the state of the music industry in Latin America.

AES137 Deadline Extended for Free Exhibits-Plus & Premium All-Access Badge Discounts

AES137LAConventionCenternightWebThe Audio Engineering Society (AES) has announced the deadline for the FREE Exhibits-Plus badge and discounted All-Access badges has been extended to Friday, Oct. 3 for the 137th AES Convention . The AES137 Convention is taking place Oct. 9-12, 2014, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and will serve as the world’s largest gathering of audio professionals for three days of exhibits and four days of workshops, technical papers, and program content tailored to the current audio and communications landscape. The convention is experiencing a surge of buzz and growth, and organizers say it promises to be the biggest AES event on the West Coast in over five years. The list of exhibitors and sponsors is growing, with over 300 professional audio manufacturers, associations, and technology leaders currently registered for booths on the exhibition floor and sponsorship support.

AES Issues Warning about Deceptive Hotel Booking Agents for LA Convention

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has issued the following notice regarding accommodations for its upcoming conference in Los Angeles, CA, which takes place Oct. 9-12, 2014 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

The AES writes:

“It has come to our attention that some housing agencies representing themselves as AES’s hotel booking agent have been contacting attendees and exhibitors to make hotel reservations on their behalf. CMR (Convention Management Resources) is the Official Housing Provider for the 137th AES Convention. No other housing company or travel agency is authorized to make hotel reservations on behalf of the AES or its sponsors. These companies have not entered into agreements with Los Angeles Hotels and are not able to guarantee rates and accommodations during the conference dates.”
