Petition banner NEWFunding cuts are slowly killing the CBC, and with it the Canadian music industry. Canadian Musician magazine invites you to join us in taking a stance on this important issue by signing the petition at www.savethecbc.com, sharing it, and spreading the message.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) has been suffering from a series of funding cuts implemented by the federal government. The 2012 federal budget cut $115 million from the CBC’s budget over three years. While this has negative consequences for all Canadians as this national institution is forced to cut jobs and scale back its reach and scope, the country’s music and arts communities, in particular, stand to lose. In many cases, it’s already happening. But there’s something you can do.

AES59 1Prof. Martha de Francisco of McGill University’s Schulich School of Muisc share with us her thoughts on the first day of the AES 59th Conference on Sound Reinforcement, which is currently going on in Montreal.

AES59 2Prof. de Franciscio says: Today, on the first day of the AES 59th Conference, we had a wonderful experience: We visited Maison Symphonique, Montreal’s new concert hall.  Jean-Pierre Primiani from the Montreal Symphony Orchestra welcomed our group of 70 guests, and he gave a presentation of the beautiful concert hall inaugurated in 2011. Organist Jacquelin Rochette then presented the new grand organ from Casavant Frères. He played a music program that allowed us to assess the magnificent acoustics of the hall and the superb quality of the instrument, an ideal musical partnership.”
