Nimbus Announces Dylan Martin Sterling Memorial Bursary

Vancouver’s Nimbus School of Recording Arts, in partnership with Kim Foreman-Rhindress and family, have announced a memorial bursary dedicated to the life of their son Dylan Martin Sterling, who passed away suddenly from heart failure on May 15, 2014, at age 22.

“It was Dylan’s dream to come to Nimbus and we’re grateful that Nimbus is helping us as a family support someone else’s dream of a career in music,” says Kim Foreman, “The last 8 months have been an intense journey for us and creating this memorial bursary has played an important role in providing us with something positive and life-affirming in the face of deep sadness and loss.”

Dylan Sterling dreamed of pursuing a career in electronic music. Graduating from high school in 2010, Dylan moved to Vancouver to attend an audio engineering and music production school, but according to his mother, regretted not choosing Nimbus for his training. After finishing, he returned to Ontario to work in his grandparent’s business to save money, and planned to return to B.C. and attend the Nimbus School of Recording Arts.

Unfortunately, Dylan’s dream was never realized, but Dylan’s family has set up the Dylan Sterling Memorial Bursary in the amount of One Thousand ($1000) Dollars per year to honour Dylan’s life and to celebrate his passion for electronic music. The bursary exists to help one deserving student each year in realizing their own dream in attending Nimbus to pursue a career in music.

The Bursary application is now available, and students may apply for it through the Nimbus website at: www.nimbusrecording.com/dylan-sterling-memorial-bursary.

Applicants will be required to read Dylan’s story and listen to his music, in addition to sharing their own personal music and story.

The application deadline for the 2015 bursary is April 15, 2015. The full amount will be awarded to the selected recipient in time for the May 2015 intake at Nimbus.
