Metalworks Institute Introduces New Digital Music Production Program

MetalworksMississauga, ON’s Metalworks Institute is offering a new, specialty diploma program in Digital Music Production.

Toronto AES Announces October Presentation on Headphone Quality

aeslogo6_smallThe Toronto chapter of the Audio Engineering Society will be hold its October meeting on Oct. 22 at Ryerson University. The meeting room will be in the Eaton Theatre, RCC 204, Communications Building, at 80 Gould St., Toronto.

Do Listeners Agree on What Makes a Headphone Sound Good?

The popularity of headphones has now exploded to produce annual worldwide sales of almost $10 billion.  Premium headphones ($100+) now account for 90% of the annual revenue growth,  as consumers’ audio experiences are becoming a primarily mobile one.  Market research indicates sound quality is a driving factor in headphone purchases with brand and fashion also being important factors among younger consumers. Yet, ironically the science behind what makes a headphone sound good and how to measure it is poorly understood. This combined with the lack of perceptually meaningful headphone standards may explain why purchasing a headphone today is like playing Russian Roulette with your ears.  The magic bullet to achieving more consistent headphone sound quality is science.

HHB Canada Announces Inaugural Universal Audio Users Group

HHB Communications Canada has announced the first Universal Audio users group, Group UA – Canada. The inaugural meeting will be held at Revolution Recording in Toronto on Sept. 12, 2013, at 7 p.m.

Group UA is an opportunity for likeminded users of Universal Audio’s software and hardware to come together for panel discussions with industry professionals who are willing to share their techniques and experiences with UA gear.

Steve Gamester & Daniel Pellerin to Present at AES Toronto Meeting on Feb. 26

The Toronto section of the Audio Engineering Society will hold its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Sound by Deluxe (424 Adelaide St. E., Toronto, ON). Producer Steve Gamester from Entertainment One Television will give a presentation about the back story of how a new History Channel Program, The Perfect Storms: Galveston, was conceived and how sound and music becomes an important partner to the editing and creating the visuals, as far as the CGI and recreations of dramatic elements of the story are concerned. Gamester will be joined by sound mixer Daniel Pellerin from Daniel Pellerin Digital Sound Production.
