Eighteen Sound Purchases CIARE Brand

Eighteen Sound Srl of Reggio Emilia, Italy has announced its purchase of the CIARE brand, of Senigallia, Italy.  The purchase takes effect immediately and broadens the scope of the Eighteen Sound product line offering, as well as expanding its access to new global markets.

“This is a direct response to our assessment of our product line offerings and will allow us to offer a broader pallet of products,” notes Giacomo Previ, director of global sales.  “Eighteen Sound will revitalize and strengthen the brand, while maintaining its focus on the professional audio marketplace.  The CIARE brand will be maintained autonomously and continue its storied 70 year history while catering to its loyal client following and maintaining its solid performance standards.”


PLASA Addresses Financial Challenges, Separation from ESTA & Future Changes

PLASAPLASA (the Professional Lighting and Sound Association) has outlined its current position in the wake of various recent changes, and asked for members’ feedback on its next steps as it moves forward.

Speaking at a meeting for PLASA members held during the PLASA Show, John Simpson, PLASA Governing Body chairman and chairman of the White Light Group of companies, said: “Without doubt our major issue this year has been that of diminishing profit, which has led to a critical cash-flow problem for the organisation.


Tracktion Acquires 2JW Design

2jw_BldgTracktion Corporation, a developer of music recording software, has completed the acquisition of Seattle-based, audio hardware manufacturer, 2JW Design. The merger is seen as the next step toward Tracktion’s stated goal of creating a new line of boutique professional audio hardware. The first of these products, a computer interface called Copper Reference, is due in 2016.


AES67-2015 Confirms Stability of Interoperability Standard

A maintenance revision to AES67-2013 – the AES standard for high-performance streaming audio-over-IP interoperability – has been issued. The revision, called AES67-2015, clarifies some of the interoperability requirements, based on general implementation and “plugfest” experience.

The possibility to incorporate these revisions was identified during the AES ‘Plugfest’ 1 testing, carried out in cooperation with the European Broadcast Union (EBU), in October last year, and held at the Institut für Rundfunktechnik (IRT), in Munich, Germany. During these tests ten companies tested 16 currently available networked-audio products with AES67-specific extensions against each other to confirm interoperability.

Norris is the president of Norris-Whitney Communications, an international communications company specializing in the entertainment field, which publishes Canadian Musician, Canadian Music Trade, Professional Sound, and Professional Lighting & Production magazines.

Audioprof Group International has acquired a majority share in Community Professional Loudspeakers, a U.S.-based loudspeaker manufacturer with global sales activities.

Community was founded in 1968 by Bruce Howze and became known for, among other things, creating the world’s first dedicated midrange compression driver, the M4, and the first lightweight fiberglass horns. Community designs and manufactures indoor and outdoor loudspeakers  for applications in extreme and challenging environments. Community’s recent installations include Commonwealth Stadium in Canada, Arena Lublin in Poland, St. Paul Union Depot in Minnesota, and World Cup venues in Brazil.

Canadian Music Week 2016 (CMW) has announced it will host the first annual Live Music Industry Awards on May 7 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel to celebrate the best of the live music business sector. As well, CMW organizers say that as the music industry shifts focus from recordings to live performances, CMW will expand its Live Music Summit programming to two days, running May 6-7, 2016.

HHB Canada has appointed Norman Verrall to manage a newly created Broadcast and System Division. The new division is focused on the needs of the broadcast, live sound, install, house of worship, and production industries. Australian pro-audio company Rode Microphones has acquired California-based audio technology manufacturer Aphex, known for its range of audio signal processing equipment and technologies.

Founded in the mid-1970s as Aphex Systems, its products and technologies are now used in a wide range of applications for music, film, video, theatre, gaming, and communications. Aphex’s “Exciter” technology was inducted into the TEC “TECnology” Hall of Fame in 2013, in recognition of its contribution to improving decades of music and voice for countless artists, albums, movies, TV and radio shows around the world.


Ontario Investing $1.5 Million in Live Theatre Across the Province

SouPepperThe Government of Ontario has announced that it is supporting live theatre in communities across the province to build interest in arts and culture, create jobs, and strengthen local economies.

Soulpepper Theatre Company will receive $1.5 million over four years to create a permanent touring repertory theatre. The touring theatre will create approximately 100 new jobs for theatre professionals, grow local theatre audiences, and boost tourism revenue and economic activity related to live theatre, according to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
