Yamaha Forms Professional Audio Division

Yamaha Corporation of America (YCA) has announced that it is forming the Professional Audio division to “provide a stronger, more unified presence in the live sound, recording and sound installation markets.”

Alan Macpherson (pictured), a 27-year Yamaha veteran with a background in marketing a broad range of Yamaha musical instruments, commercial audio, live sound, and recording products, will lead a dedicated team of professional and commercial audio specialists in the new division. He will report directly to Tom Sumner, senior vice president of YCA.

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) hosted its 57th International Conference, titled “The Future of Audio Entertainment Technology: Cinema, Television, and the Internet,” in Hollywood, California, on Friday, March 6, through Sunday, March 8, 2015. Co-chaired by Brian McCarty and Dr. Sean Olive, the conference was intended to stimulate increased dialog between the Hollywood content creation community and the AES, and drew a substantial audience to the three-day program, which was presented at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres. Keynote addresses were given by noted industry professionals, including Dr. Floyd Toole, former AES president, fellow, and gold medal recipient; Louis Hernandez Jr., Avid chairman, president, and CEO; and Francis Rumsey, chair of the AES Technical Council, fellow, and bronze medal award recipient.

Following its acquisition of Midnite Hour Productions in November 2014, Solotech has announced its further growth in Toronto with the acquisition of the assets of P.A. Plus Productions.

According to François Ménard, Solotech’s CEO, this transaction will allow Solotech to add P.A. Plus Productions sound system expertise to services already offered by Solotech in the greater Toronto area. This acquisition will complement Solotech’s offer in audio, lighting, video, rigging, and scenery and will be an addition to the activities of Midnite Hour Productions.


Sennheiser & Apogee Electronics Announce Future Collaboration

During the Winter NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA, audio specialists Sennheiser and Apogee Electronics announced their collaboration on future products.

Apogee’s Betty Bennett and Sennheiser’s Peter Claussen have jointly announced the cooperation of their companies. Peter Claussen, COO of Sennheiser, said that “Apogee and Sennheiser are a perfect fit. We both operate in the demanding premium sector, serving professional and semi-professional audio customers across the globe. Solotech Host NUAGE Demo Week in Quebec City

A recent Yamaha NUAGE demo took place at Solotech’s location in Quebec City, increasing awareness of the new digital audio production system to the Canadian market, and educating its clients about the new system.

Held in October, the “NUAGE Demo Week” included Yamaha Commercial Audio Systems team member Michel Trépanier and Marcel Maurceri and François Thibault, Solotech Studio Specialist, who conducted approximately a dozen of demos and presentations to clients. “The clients really enjoyed the event and were amazed by NUAGE and its impressive possibilities for post-production,” says Fabien Panou, Marketing & Communications for Solotech.


PLASA Announces 2014 Election Results

PLASA’s month-long elections to determine positions on its European and North American Regional Boards, together with its central governing body, concluded at midnight on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014.

Companies and individuals from PLASA’s worldwide membership voted in the elections, which were conducted via a secure online poll.

Four positions were up for election on the North American Regional Board with Todd Spencer of PSAV elected as vice-chairman, Tracey Cosgrove of Rosco Laboratories as secretary, Orestes Mihaly of PRG filling the position of production services representative, and John Cini of High Output, Inc. voted on to represent rental members.


Solotech Acquires Midnite Hour Productions

Solotech has acquired Toronto-based company Midnite Hour Productions.

According to François Ménard, CEO of Solotech, this strategic move will allow Solotech to consolidate its position in the Greater Toronto market in addition to joining a team of experts in tailor-made solutions for lighting, video, rigging, and decor for stage, film, and corporate events. Midnite Hour’s founders, Marty Anderson and Louis Racine, and their employees will now be part of the larger Solotech team.
