Prism Sound Announces Maselec Master Series Rebranding

Prism Sound has announced that from today (March 31st, 2016) it will no longer market its Maselec Master Series products, namely MEA-2, MLA-2, and MMA-4XR.

The MEA-2, MLA-2, and MMA-4XR products, designed and manufactured by Mases Electronics Limited, will in future be available under the Maselec brand from Mases Electronics Limited.

A limited quantity of remaining Prism Sound branded stock, new and used, is available. Contact sales@prismsound.com for details.


Federal Budget Commits $1.9 Billion To Arts & Culture

Finance-MinisterFinance Minister Bill Morneau unveiled the new Liberal Government’s first budget yesterday, March 22nd, and in it the federal government made good on a number of campaign promises related to arts funding. In total, the Liberal Government committed $1.9 billion in new funding over five years to arts and culture programs and institutions.

In the 269-page budget, the government committed to investing an additional $675 million in the CBC/Radio-Canada over the next five years “to modernize and revitalize CBC/Radio Canada in the digital era.” This is divided into $75 million this coming fiscal year and $150 million in each of the next four years.


Gefen Canada Changes Name to GCI Distribution

The new standard defines requirements for labeling cables used in installed AV systems and provides guidance for the easy identification of all power and signal paths in a completed system. EAW Co-Founder Kenton Forsythe Announces Retirement

Forsythe_kenton_bEastern Acoustic Works (EAW) has announced the retirement of Kenton Forsythe, executive vice president of strategic engineering. Forsythe, one of the original founders of EAW, has spent his career advancing loudspeaker technology and design. In 2011 he received a Parnelli Award for audio innovation as further testament to his contributions to the professional audio industry.


Open Control Architecture is standardized as AES70

Open Control Architecture (OCA) – an open control and monitoring standard for professional audio and AV media network devices – has been officially standardized on 4 January 2016 by the Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee (AESSC) in the newly published AES70-2015 standard for audio applications of networks – Open Control Architecture. With the ratification of OCA as AES70, it is now an official public open standard.

Eighteen Sound Srl of Reggio Emilia, Italy has announced its purchase of the CIARE brand, of Senigallia, Italy.  The purchase takes effect immediately and broadens the scope of the Eighteen Sound product line offering, as well as expanding its access to new global markets.

PLASA Addresses Financial Challenges, Separation from ESTA & Future Changes

PLASAPLASA (the Professional Lighting and Sound Association) has outlined its current position in the wake of various recent changes, and asked for members’ feedback on its next steps as it moves forward.

Tracktion Acquires 2JW Design

2jw_BldgTracktion Corporation, a developer of music recording software, has completed the acquisition of Seattle-based, audio hardware manufacturer, 2JW Design. The merger is seen as the next step toward Tracktion’s stated goal of creating a new line of boutique professional audio hardware. The first of these products, a computer interface called Copper Reference, is due in 2016.
