Pensado’s Place, the hour-long weekly web series co-hosted by legendary mix engineer Dave Pensado (Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey, Elton John, Michael Jackson and others) and show creator, Herb Trawick, will host the first-ever Pensado’s NAMM JAM at The 2018 NAMM Show (January 25-28) in Anaheim, CA.

Canadian audiovisual integration and event services firm Westbury National has announced that Frank Gerstein is now Owner, Chairman, and President, taking over from company founders David (Benny) Bennett and Rob Sandolowich. Both Bennett and Sandolowich will continue to play active roles within the organization.

Since joining Westbury National in 2010 as a partner and managing director, Gerstein has led corporate strategic planning in addition to running operations driving innovation in the company’s Event and Show Services, and bringing new advancements to the Audio and Visual Solutions division.

The 2018 NAMM Show Amplifies Focus on Pro Audio

As well, the newly expanded Anaheim Convention Center will offer a much larger selection of pro audio brands on the exhibition floor.

The four-day symposium comprises a unique, high-end education and training program targeted at professionals working in live sound, recording and audio for the performing arts. AES@NAMM will be held in the NAMM Education Campus located inside the Anaheim Hilton Hotel, and adjacent to a brand-new exhibit space showcasing pro audio’s leading brands.

The AES has announced that the award-winning and highly renowned recording engineer and producer Leslie Ann Jones of Skywalker Sound will deliver the Heyser Memorial Lecture at the upcoming AES New York Convention, taking place Oct. 18-21, 2017 at the Jacob Javits Center.

“Almost any superlatives applied to Jones and her decades of work would be understatement,” says Francis Rumsey, AES Technical Council Chair. “Her lecture, fittingly titled ‘Paying Attention,’ promises to take attendees on a fascinating, educational, and inspirational retrospective of the sessions leading to her vast discography and filmography, including those moments when focusing on the right detail has both sustained and enriched her storied career.” The Heyser Memorial lecture will take place on the opening evening of the convention – Oct. 18, from 6-7:30 p.m. Jones will also be featured during the 143rd International AES Convention in the special event presentation “Bearing Witness: The Music of Star Wars – Archiving Art and Technology,” on day two.

CCBE 66th Career Development Conference Taking Shape

logoThe Asssociation of Central Canada Broadcast Engineers, Technologists & Engineers (CCBE) will hold its 66th annual Career Development Conference from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, 2017 at the Kingbridge Conference Centre in King City, ON.

The conference offers four days of technical papers, workshops and training sessions conducted by design engineers, industry professionals, and their representatives. There is teh opportunity to attend CCBE’s SBE industry training and certification, and a selection of technical papers covering a wide range of topics. Attendees will learn about radio and TV systems, HD and 4k production and post-production, compression technologies, web distribution, and terrestrial digital transmission for fixed or mobile reception. They can mingle with the other attendees and celebrate the awards presented to members of the engineering community.

Kinesys & Drifter Rigging to Host Demo Day in Toronto

KinesysAutomation specialist Kinesys is staging its first product awareness demonstration in Canada on July 8th, 2017. The goal is to make people aware that Kinesys products have “officially landed” in Canada and are available through Toronto’s Drifter Rigging.

The Demo Day is a collaboration between David Bond, who runs Kinesys’ North American operation, and Mark “Drifter” Desloges from Drifter Rigging, a new rental operation recently established in Toronto with a selection of Kinesys equipment. It will be held in a warehouse facility at 100 Carson St., Unit A, in Etobicoke.

InfoComm Show Experiences 14% Attendance Increase

InfoComm, North America’s largest audiovisual trade show, welcomed more than 40,000 visitors for the first time in its history.

“It’s a watershed year for InfoComm,” says Jason McGraw, senior VP of expositions for InfoComm International. “The technology on display was amazing again, and we’re thrilled with the tremendous response, but we’re especially excited that guest after guest told us this InfoComm offered new and different experiences for our growing, innovative audience.”

By the time the doors closed for the week, InfoComm 2017 had logged 44,077 registered attendees, 13 per cent more than the last time it was held in Orlando, FL, in 2015, and 14 per cent more than InfoComm 2016 in Las Vegas.
