Sound Ideas, the Toronto-based publisher of professional sound effects, has announced the acquisition of the Frank Serafine Sound Effects Collection.
Frank Serafine is an award winning Hollywood sound designer who is credited with the development of many new digital audio techniques. His work has been heard in such Hollywood blockbusters as Star Trek, Lawnmower Man, The Hunt for Red October and Virtuosity. In addition, Frank Serafine holds a unique place in the sound effects library industry as one of the first major sound designers to lend their name to commercial SFX collections.

Middle Atlantic Canada has announced that Gino Pileggi has joined its team in the position of account manager for Central Ontario. Gino will be working with Ron Saunders to cover the company’s direct to dealer business in Ontario.
Pileggi brings with him over 20 years of experience working in direct to dealer markets, including commercial and pro AV, residential, security, and broadcast. He has worked various roles while servicing these markets, including customer service, marketing, and for the majority, as an outside account manager. Having a B.Comm, as well as CTS, the company says Pileggi will help bring strength to its account management team.

The keynote address at the 59th AES Conference on Sound Reinforcement will be presented by Bob McCarthy, director of system optimization at Meyer Sound. McCarthy is an international authority in sound system design and optimization. His book, Sound Systems: Design and Optimization (Focal Press), is considered a definitive work in the field of sound system measurement and tuning. Bob McCarthy designed countless systems around the world of all scales and types including more than 10 Cirque du Soleil productions and seven productions of Wicked.

The Toronto chapter of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) has announced the date, presenter, and topic of its June 16th meeting. Dr. Peter D’Antonio, Founder/Chairman of RPG Diffusor Systems, Inc. will discuss RPG’s evolution of products and services over the past three decades and the current state-of-the-art in measuring the absorption, scattering and diffusion coefficients, using multiple microphone technology. He will also describe the services offered by the Chesapeake Acoustic Research Institute he founded in 2007.
