Minnetonka Audio Software Now Worldwide Distributor of Dolby Media Emulators

Steve Gamester & Daniel Pellerin to Present at AES Toronto Meeting on Feb. 26

The Toronto section of the Audio Engineering Society will hold its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at Sound by Deluxe (424 Adelaide St. E., Toronto, ON). Producer Steve Gamester from Entertainment One Television will give a presentation about the back story of how a new History Channel Program, The Perfect Storms: Galveston, was conceived and how sound and music becomes an important partner to the editing and creating the visuals, as far as the CGI and recreations of dramatic elements of the story are concerned. Gamester will be joined by sound mixer Daniel Pellerin from Daniel Pellerin Digital Sound Production.

SoundTube Entertainment has announced the appointment of Erikson Commercial as the company’s exclusive distributor for the country of Canada. Erikson Commercial is a division of JAM Industries. In addition to providing office and warehouse space in Montreal, QC, the company has a sales force calling on system integrators, retailers, and commercial sound/lighting installers throughout Canada.

In Memoriam: Victoria “Vicki” Szepesi

Professional Sound has learned of the very sad news of the passing of Victoria “Vicki” Szepesi, wife of PA Plus owner Gabor Szepesi. Our sincerest condolences go out to Gabor and all of Vicki’s family and friends. Her obituary in the Toronto Star reads:

“SZEPESI, Victoria (Vicki) – Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 3, 2013. She will be sadly missed by all. Vicki was the devoted wife and mother of (Gabor) Gup and Jay. Vicki leaves behind her older brother Bill Green of Victoria, BC, her loved sister Sue (Susie) Stymest (Mike) and predeceased by her brother John Green (Marlene). Vicki was loved by her nieces, Kirsty McGeown (Alan), Kim Stymest Shewfelt (John) and Melissa Shipman (Ben). Vicki was great-aunt to Josh and Dylan. No service will be held, but friends and family are welcome to a reception at the family home at 1588 Holburne Road, Mississauga, Wednesday, February 6th, from 3-7 p.m. Vicki loved flowers, so flowers or donations to the Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated.”

Mackie Sells Tracktion To New-Formed Tracktion Software Corporation

Mackie has announced the sale and transition of Tracktion Music Production Software to the Tracktion Software Corporation (TSC). TSC is led by three principals; Julian ‘Jules’ Storer, the original creator of Tracktion as well as former Mackie employees James ‘Woody’ Woodburn and Dave Christenson.

Nimbus Offering Scholarship Through High School Mix Contest

The Nimbus School of Recording Arts in Vancouver, BC is offering Canadian high school students the chance to win scholarship by creating their own mixes. The aspiring recording engineers and producers can enter the Nimbus Mix Contest by mixing their own version of songs from Universal artists Hedley, Sam Roberts, and Karl Wolf.

“This contest is a real opportunity for a new generation of engineers and producers,” said legendary producer Nimbus co-founder Bob Ezrin.  “This is a chance for talented students to work on tracks from artists they hear on the radio, and to see what it takes to create a mix that stands up to industry standards.”


TOA Canada Hires Ken Kenton As Technical Sales Specialist

TOA Canada Corporation has hired Ken Kenton to the position of Technical Sales Specialist.

Kenton’s role will be to assist TOA’s regional sales managers in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, by educating and assisting end users, consultants and engineering firms with product needs and specifications for tender and design build projects. Kenton will be providing technical support from the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. EST.

Kenton brings to TOA 34 years of electronic communications experience, including sales, technical service, project management and design. He holds Certification in: Canadian Construction Association (CCA), Gold Seal Certification (GSC) in Project Management, The Association of Science and Engineering Technology Professionals of Alberta (ASET), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET).
