2016 NAMM TEC Awards Nominees Released

The NAMM Foundation has announced the nominees for its 31st Annual NAMM Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards in the categories of Outstanding Technical and Creative Achievement. The awards celebrate the best in professional audio and sound production. Voting begins Dec. 1st, with winners announced at a Saturday evening, Jan. 23, 2016 awards event held in the Anaheim Hilton’s Pacific Ballroom and via a live event web stream during the 2016 NAMM Show.

Acoustics Week in Canada Heading to Nova Scotia from Oct. 6-9

NSAcoustics Week in Canada (AWC15) will be chaired by Dr. Sean Pecknold and Prof. Michael Kiefte and held at the Westin Nova Scotia hotel in downtown Halifax from Oct. 6-9, 2015.

Acoustics researchers, professionals, educators, and students are welcomed to Halifax for three days of plenary lectures and technical sessions. The Canadian Acoustical Association Annual General Meeting will be held in conjunction with the conference, along with the Acoustical Standards Committee Meeting, the conference banquet, and an exhibition of acoustical equipment and services.

Jimmy Douglass to give Keynote Speech at IMSTA FESTA Toronto

jimmydouglassheadIMSTA FESTA Toronto, which is taking place Oct. 17 at Ryerson University, has announced Jimmy Douglass will deliver the keynote speech at this years’ event.  Jimmy Douglass is an American four-time Grammy-winning recording engineer and record producer, whose prolific career has spanned more than four decades.

In the early 1970s Douglass worked with some of the greatest engineers, producers, and record moguls including Tom Dowd, Arif Mardin, Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertegun. He went on to work with great Atlantic Recording artists such as Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, Led Zepellin, and AC/DC to name a few. During the 1980s, he engineered and produced established artists including The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music and Gang of Four. In 1994, he began working with up and coming contemporary R&B/hip hop producer Timbaland and served as his main engineer for more than a decade. They would eventually collaborate on classic projects from artists such as Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine and Jay-Z.

Toronto AES September Meeting on Zenph Re-performance of Glenn Gould’s 1955 Goldberg Variations

Event description

Glenn Gould‘s extraordinary career was book-ended by recordings of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The release of his 1955 mono, analogue debut recording on Columbia Records placed him immediately among classical music’s superstars. His 1981 stereo, digital recording was released just a few weeks before his death.

Second IMSTA FESTA Toronto Taking Shape

SMALL RK & WG full roomOn Oct. 17, 2015 the International Music Software Trade Association (IMSTA) and Ryerson University will partner to host the second annual IMSTA FESTA Toronto, a product showcase and education event focused on music technology and designed for professional and semi-professional musicians, songwriters, music producers, and audio engineers, as well as music students and educators. It is a free event.

Organizers say their educational panels and Q&As will bring together an array of industry experts to discuss the state of the music business, technology, and more. Last year’s event include a keynote Q&A with American audio engineer, record producer, and DJ, Young Guru, as well as a Cooking Beats seminar with Rich Kidd and WondaGurl. Manufacturers and distributors will also be showcasing the latest music creation technologies at the exhibition.

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has released the Technical Program details for the 139th International AES Convention, which will be held Oct. 29 to Nov. 1, 2015, at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Bringing together individuals of all skill and experience levels from around the world, the AES139 Convention offers attendees four full days of comprehensive Technical Program presentations including workshops, tutorials, paper sessions, student and career development events, special events, and more. These events are designed to showcase latest technologies and techniques in the fields of recording and production, live sound, broadcast and streaming, mixing and mastering, audio for gaming, system integration, and other topics. Additionally, AES139 will offer three full days of pro audio manufacturer exhibition, as well as free specialized presentations on the convention’s Live Sound Expo (LSE) and Project Studio Expo (PSE) stages. Advanced Registration pricing is still available, as well as free Exhibits-Plus badges.

AMX Canada & Techni+Contact Product Conferences Announced for Montreal

On Sept. 1st and 2nd, AMX Canada and Techni+Contact we will be launching the second leg of their cross-Canada product conferences near Montreal to showcase all their commercial lines.

These events will entail an intense half-day of workshops from manufacturers, table top presentations, and demos. Snacks, refreshments, and lunch will be provided as well as door prizes and giveaways.
