AES Toronto Going to McMaster University’s LIVELab on Tuesday

live-lab-1The Toronto section of the Audio Engineering Society (AES) will be heading to McMaster University’s LIVELab on Tuesday, May 31st, for an interesting peak at the researchers’ unique work looking into the effects of music and sound on the brain, as well as the audio technology in the facility.  The event does require pre-registration, which is free, and can be found at the bottom of the page here: www.torontoaes.org/music-mind-livelab/

InfoComm 2016 to Showcase the Internet of Things

The Internet of Things will make its presence felt at InfoComm 2016, happening June 4-10 at the Las Vegas Convention Center and Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. Show organizers expect nearly 1,000 exhibitors to occupy more than 500,000 sq. ft. of show space. InfoComm 2016 builds on last year’s record attendance, welcoming attendees from more than 100 countries.

Renkus-Heinz has announced a restructuring of key management positions. Effective June 1, 2016, and under the continuing leadership of company founder and CEO Harro Heinz, Sr. Vice President Ralph Heinz will assume the position of Chief Technical Officer, with Monika Heinz Smetona being appointed Chief Operating Officer.

Western Regional Sales Manager Ladd Temple has been promoted to North American Sales Manager covering the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Supporting his efforts Sr. Applications Engineer Jim Mobley has been appointed Technical Sales Manager, working with Temple on the U.S. business while also directly managing sales to South America.

Meyer Sound has announced the hiring of Andy Willcox as Sales Manager, Residential Systems and Daniel Rivera as Sales Specialist, House of Worship Market.

Andy Willcox will connect Meyer Sound products and technologies to a growing market for private cinemas and premium distributed systems in residences for high-net-worth clients. Willcox comes to Meyer Sound with three decades of experience in the residential AV market, both as an owner of a Midwestern systems integration firm and as VP of sales and business development at CINEAK, a supplier of furnishings for private cinemas. He served on the board of directors and executive board of CEDIA, serving as president of the organization from 2005 to 2006.

Yorkville Sound has added British studio microphone builder Aston Microphones to its catalog of distributed lines.

Newly founded in the U.K., the first four products in the Aston catalog are the Origin and Spirit studio microphones, the Rycote compact shockmount, and the Halo reflection filter. All Aston products are designed and built in the U.K. and will be shipping this summer.

“Aston Mics have hit the recording scene with a bang, and we at Yorkville Sound are thrilled to represent these products in Canada,” Jeff Cowling, VP of sales and marketing at Yorkville Sound, tells Professional Sound. “The unique look of the Origin and Spirit microphones immediately turns heads, but it’s the sound that really impresses users. Ontario-based Adamson Systems Engineering has announced the expansion of its North American support team. Richard Woida has joined the U.S applications group to reinforce Adamson’s growing client base in the United States.  Scott Shields has been hired as sales and marketing coordinator, working out of the Canadian headquarters.

James Oliver, director of marketing and sales, notes, “We’re a company that’s driven by the love of audio and not by financial investors. Expo-Scène 2016 Brings AV Pros To Montreal

Over 1,400 professionals gathered at the Palais des congrès de Montreal for Expo-Scène 2016 on May 2nd and 3rd. The show featured over 65 exhibitors from Canada and the U.S., as well as 15 different seminars and demos over the course of the two-day event.

 Exhibitors and speakers covered all areas of the pro audio, lighting, audiovisual, and multimedia technology industries. The seminars included how stage lighting is changing with the advent of LED-powered fixtures, as well as two sessions on how to create visual projection on video/LED walls for concerts, theatres, etc. and an overview of truss systems, connections, and load bearings. There was also a seminar on remote device management and monitoring for today’s lighting systems and PL&P Publisher Jim Norris discussed business marketing.

It’s with great sadness we pass on the news that Peter Traynor, the co-founder of Traynor Amplifiers, passed away over the weekend. Peter Traynor and Jack Long began Traynor Amplifiers, which eventually evolved into Yorkville Sound, in the basement of the original Long & McQuade Store in 1963. As the company says, his innovative design concepts, practical solutions, and desire to build rugged and reliable equipment for musicians led to the founding of the brand that still carries his name more than 50 years later, making him an icon in the Canadian music industry to this day. His brilliant mind was matched by his desire for fun and excitement and stories of Peter Traynor are legendary in the Canadian music community.
