HHB Canada has appointed Norman Verrall to manage a newly created Broadcast and System Division. The new division is focused on the needs of the broadcast, live sound, install, house of worship, and production industries. It will also provide path to market for these sectors, independent of HHB Canada’s existing MI and pro audio resellers.

Acoustics Week in Canada Heading to Nova Scotia from Oct. 6-9

NSAcoustics Week in Canada (AWC15) will be chaired by Dr. Sean Pecknold and Prof. Michael Kiefte and held at the Westin Nova Scotia hotel in downtown Halifax from Oct. 6-9, 2015.

Acoustics researchers, professionals, educators, and students are welcomed to Halifax for three days of plenary lectures and technical sessions. The Canadian Acoustical Association Annual General Meeting will be held in conjunction with the conference, along with the Acoustical Standards Committee Meeting, the conference banquet, and an exhibition of acoustical equipment and services.

Early-Bird Registration Deadline Nearing for Mixing & Mastering Courses with Noah Mintz & Jim Zolis

There are two days left to get a discounted registration rate for two one-day intensive crash courses on mixing and mastering being presented by Music Marketing. These one-day intensive courses will be held in Toronto on Saturday, Oct. 24th and Saturday, Nov. 7th respectively. Until Sept. 30, the early-bird registration rate is $195 for each course. After Sept. 30th, the registration fee is $245.

TC Group has issued an update regarding the Canadian distribution of its brands. This follows Music Group’s acquisition of TC Group in May of 2015. For the Tannoy, Lab Gruppen, TC Electronic, and TC Helicon brands, TC Group’s independent rep firms, BG Media, MM Technologies, and Connect West, have resigned the lines as of Sept. 30, 2015.

Presently, Music Group brands, Behringer, Midas, and Turbosound are distributed through Intellimix/AVL. TC Group Americas CEO Marc Bertrand says”we  will be conducting business as usual between now and October 31st, meaning that all TC orders will be coming into our Kitchener office and invoiced/fulfilled as usual with Intellimix/AVL acting as our reps. Over this six week period we will be preparing for moving full Canadian distribution to Intellimix/AVL and their new state of the art facility in Montreal.”

After a long and successful career that led Solotech’s Ron Morissette to be in involved in virtually every aspect of the entertainment industry, he recently announced that he has chosen to retire from the industry.

Over the last four decades Morissette has been at the forefront of innovations that have significantly advanced the fields of entertainment and audiovisual technology.  In 2008 he joined Solotech in the role of general manager of corporate development. In that capacity he was one of the prime movers of the expansion policy across Canada for Solotech’s Integration Division.  More recently, Morissette put all of his energy into the start-up of a Solotech office in Toronto.

Jimmy Douglass to give Keynote Speech at IMSTA FESTA Toronto

jimmydouglassheadIMSTA FESTA Toronto, which is taking place Oct. 17 at Ryerson University, has announced Jimmy Douglass will deliver the keynote speech at this years’ event.  Jimmy Douglass is an American four-time Grammy-winning recording engineer and record producer, whose prolific career has spanned more than four decades.

In the early 1970s Douglass worked with some of the greatest engineers, producers, and record moguls including Tom Dowd, Arif Mardin, Jerry Wexler and Ahmet Ertegun. He went on to work with great Atlantic Recording artists such as Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, Led Zepellin, and AC/DC to name a few. During the 1980s, he engineered and produced established artists including The Rolling Stones, Roxy Music and Gang of Four. In 1994, he began working with up and coming contemporary R&B/hip hop producer Timbaland and served as his main engineer for more than a decade. They would eventually collaborate on classic projects from artists such as Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Ginuwine and Jay-Z.

Harman Professional Solutions Introduces New Leadership Team

Blake Augsburger, executive vice president and president of Harman Professional Solutions Division, has announced his new leadership team as part of the division’s recently announced customer-centric organizational model. The new team includes Bryan Bradley, Entertainment SBU; Kevin Morrison, Enterprise SBU; and Mark Ureda, Products SBU. The team will officially move into their new roles on Oct. 1, 2015.

Toronto AES September Meeting on Zenph Re-performance of Glenn Gould’s 1955 Goldberg Variations

Event description

Glenn Gould‘s extraordinary career was book-ended by recordings of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations. The release of his 1955 mono, analogue debut recording on Columbia Records placed him immediately among classical music’s superstars. His 1981 stereo, digital recording was released just a few weeks before his death.
